Laura Rossi

Laura Rossi is a composer for film, TV, ballet, and concert music.  Her music has been described as 'hauntingly atmospheric with emotional depth and beauty' and 'truly breathtaking, on a par with those of the great Hollywood composers'.  Credits include Battle of the Somme, BFI Silent Shakespeare, London to Brighton, Song for Marion, The Cottage, Hurricane, and ITV 6-part drama, Redemption.  Concert works include Under the Rainbow and Voices of Remembrance for choir and orchestra, featuring poetry readings by Ralph Fiennes and Vanessa Redgrave, performed multiple times to critical acclaim, including Jersey Opera House and Manchester Cathedral.  For the Somme centenary, one hundred orchestras worldwide performed her score to the UNESCO listed Battle of the Somme film.  Watched live by over 37,000, performed by 4,200 musicians, and televised live on BBC1 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra.  In 2024 she wrote a 2-hour ballet score 'Atonement' based on Ian McEwan's novel, choreographed by Cathy Marston for Zurich Ballet and Joffrey Ballet, Chicago, performed by Zurich Philharmonia and Chicago Lyric Opera Orchestra.  She is currently composing a large-scale work for a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, for 450 musicians and a Mass Choir of over 1200 children, with lyrics by Michael Rosen.  Laura's music has been performed by the Philharmonia, New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, London Contemporary Orchestra, and BBC Concert Orchestra.  Her works have been performed at the Barbican, Royal Festival Hall and Queen Elizabeth Hall, London.  Laura is a professor in film music at the Guildhall School of Music and Trinity Laban's Summer School and regularly gives masterclasses and workshops about film composition in colleges and at festivals.
